Responding to a report published today by the Centre for Longitudinal Studies at the Institute of Education, Daycare Trust joint Chief Executive Alison Garnham said:

“Grandparents deserve recognition for the role they play in childcare. The benefit of having parents nearby available to help with out of school care is enormous, for both individual families and the UK economy as a whole. However, this study is a reminder that group childcare has an important role to play in the development of pre-school aged children, especially children from deprived family backgrounds, improving behaviour and giving children a much needed head start when they begin school.”

Ends.
