Daycare Trust welcomes the announcement in the Chancellor's Pre-Budget report that spending on Sure Start centres has been protected and that it will be maintained in line with inflation

10 December 2009

The Sure Start programme is one of the government's most important flagship policies, bringing integrated children's services to families across the country. Especially important to those low-income families, Sure Start Centres are proving to be an vital element in helping disadvantaged children. We hope all political parties will continue to support this important and groundbreaking programme into the future.

Alison Garnham, joint Chief Executive of Daycare Trust, said:

"Early years education and care are incredibly important in tackling disadvantage. Daycare Trust is pleased that the Government has recognised this and has been able to protect funding for Sure Start, a resource which is essential in the fight to end child poverty in the UK. We very much hope to see further investment of this sort in the future."
