What is Families First?
The Families First Award is a quality assurance process for Family Information Service (FIS) agencies operating in the UK. It was developed by NAFIS in conjunction with FIS practitioners and the Department for Education (DfE) as a tool to measure the effectiveness of a FIS agency's delivery of its statutory obligation to meet the Information Duty in Section 12 (Section 27 in Wales) of the 2006 Childcare Act.
|
The Award contains a set of 11 Standards (plus Standard 10 for FIS agencies in Wales) against which a FIS is assessed in its delivery of its statutory obligation and is the only recognised and endorsed measure available. A FIS agency collects physical evidence against each of the elements within each of the Standards and then collates this using the Learning Assistant on-line e-Portfolio.
Families First Quality Award for Children's Centres!
Children’s Centres have requested a NAFIS quality award to more accurately reflect their role in providing high quality information services to parents in line with the Information Duty (Childcare Act 2006).
NAFIS is pleased to launch the new set of standards for Children’s Centres that build upon the original Families First Quality Award (FFQA) for local authority Families Information Services (FIS).
