If your children are aged 15 or under (16 if they are disabled) and you pay for childcare, you could get help with your childcare costs. People often think that help with childcare costs is restricted to care for children under five but so long as your childcare is registered with Ofsted in England or CSSIW in Wales, you may be able to get help with childcare costs from Working Tax Credit or through an employer-supported childcare scheme.
For more information about paying for childcare for older children, download our factsheet, 'Childcare for older children'.
Some families struggle to find childcare in the evenings or on weekends. However, some childminders and nannies are able to offer flexibility about the hours they work and may also be able to pick your child up from school or the out-of-school club. Your local Family Information Service (FIS) should have details for childminders and registered nannies in your area that are available during atypical hours. You can find details for your local FIS by using this 'Find your FIS' function or by searching in your local phone book.
