Joint Chief Executive Emma Knights to leave Daycare Trust

11 December 2009

Emma Knights will be leaving Daycare Trust in January 2010 after three successful years job-sharing the Chief Executive role with Alison Garnham.   Emma will be taking up a new post as Chief Executive of the National Governors' Association, while Alison will become full-time at Daycare Trust.

Emma Knights and Alison Garnham said "We are proud that Daycare Trust puts its principles into practice with family-friendly employment, and for the past three and a half years we have been able to blaze a trail for those wishing to job share at Chief Executive level. Although it is not without its challenges, we would thoroughly recommend it to others. It's a shame to break up a successful partnership, but children grow up and this changes the way mothers want and need to work."

Emma said:

"Daycare Trust has a great future with lots of work to do.  For me moving from the field of early years education to schools at the National Governors' Association is a natural progression!  And I will always be behind Daycare Trust's ambition of affordable quality childcare.   I am very pleased to be leaving the organisation in such capable hands."

Alison said:

"I know that, with her considerable management and leadership skills, Emma will make her mark at the National Governors' Association. I look forward to taking on the role full time at this especially important time for early education and childcare."

Rita Stringfellow, Chair of Daycare Trust, said:

"Since joining Daycare Trust in 2006, Emma has been a real asset as joint Chief Executive, campaigning tirelessly to improve early education and childcare and further the cause of working families in the UK.  While we are sad to see her leave, we wish Emma all the best in her new role. In moving forward, we are very pleased that Alison Garnham is able to take up the reigns as full time Chief Executive, meaning Daycare Trust's childcare campaigning will continue in force at this important time."
