Only two per cent of people who currently work in early years are male. Do you think there should be more effort to increase the numbers of men working in childcare and early years?

Paying for childcare

The Government is spending more than ever before on helping parents with general family and childcare costs. There are several sources of help available and we hope our information will help you to find out more. The type of support you get to help with your childcare costs will depend on your situation.

Daycare Trust's 2010 Childcare Costs Survey shows that parents in the UK face typical childcare costs of over £4,576 per year, for 25 hours of nursery care per week. In some parts of the country, the typical costs are over £11,000 per year, per child for 25 hours a week. So you are not alone if you find it difficult to afford childcare.

Our Paying for childcare website provides you with information to help you to understand what financial support you may be able to get for your childcare costs.

Go to the Paying for childcare website.

Information for your employer

You may be eligible for help with your childcare costs through your employer. This type of support is known as employer-supported childcare. For information about this, read our factsheets in our Factsheets for parents section.

If your employer does not operate an employer-supported childcare scheme, you might want to suggest that they introduce this within your organisation. To help you with this, we have a number of factsheets that you can give to your employer so that they have some information before making a decision.

Visit our Information for employers section.
