Take part in our poll

Only two per cent of people who currently work in early years are male. Do you think there should be more effort to increase the numbers of men working in childcare and early years?

Who we support

Daycare Trust lends its support to the work of other organisations who enhance and compliment the work we do and whose work supports the childcare agenda. Organisations and campaigns we support are detailed below.

We are a member of the Campaign to End Child Poverty

The Campaign includes children's and other charities, social justice groups, faith-groups, trade unions, businesses and many others concerned about the unacceptably high levels of child poverty in the UK who are working together for change.

The Campaign to End Child Poverty continues to raise the issue across the UK, in order to maintain the current pressure on Government to commit the resources necessary to halve child poverty by 2010 and end it by 2020.

For more information visit:www.endchildpoverty.org.uk.

We support the Gender Agenda

Ever wondered how sex inequality affects your life? Now's your chance to find out. Visit:www.gender-agenda.co.uk and take the EOC's online MOT.

Fathers' Story Week 14-20 June

Fathers' Story Week logo

Thousands of schools, pre-schools and nurseries across the UK are being encouraged to take part in the first ever ‘Fathers' Story Week', launched by the Fatherhood Institute as part of a major campaign to encourage dads and father figures to play a greater role in their children's learning and development.

The week, which will run from 14 June up to Fathers Day on 20 June,  is designed to involve early years and primary age children and their fathers - with a range of activities from counting and cooking with dad to finding out about their dad's background and upbringing.

The new Fathers' Story Week website, www.fathersstoryweek.co.uk, provides further information and free materials to schools taking part in the week-long event.

Advisory Panel on Food and Nutrition in Early Years

Daycare Trustr Support s the work of the Advisory Panel on Food and Nutrition in Early Years. Food standards in nurseries are to be reviewed by a new panel of experts and nutritionists, to see if food and drink served to children in early years settings could be improved. The Panel is made up of professionals from the early years sector, dieticians and children’s charities.

The advisory panel will work with providers, practitioners, caterers, food manufacturers and those involved with auditing or inspecting early years food and drink provision, including local authorities and Ofsted. It will produce a set of recommendations to inform the wider, independent review of the Early Years Foundation Stage which will begin in September 2010.

Further information can be found on the Early Years page of the School Food Trust website.
